Danny Green hasn't made a call on whether he'll retire following a crushing loss to Poland's World Boxing Council cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk in Perth on Wednesday night.

Green was leading the fight on the cards of all three judges before the Pole landed some massive blows, culminating in a mighty left hook that felled the 38-year-old Australian with just under a minute to go in the 11th of 12 rounds.

Green had controlled the fight with his jab and speed, and rocked the champ several times in the fifth round.

However, from round seven onwards Wlodarczyk kicked it up a gear as he looked to maintain his record of not being beaten since May 2007.

Eventually, Wlodarczyk's punching power came to the fore, but Green showed that he still had plenty to offer despite now being stopped in his last two fights.

''That's the game I'm in. I took on the best cruiserweight in the world and I was 1 rounds from pulling off the fairytale,'' Green said.

''I know one thing: when I have retired and finished boxing, I will know that I've given it everything I have got.

''I've been blessed with one of the best jabs in the game and I had to use it against a warrior, and such a strong and determined fighter.

''I proved after the shocking performance against [Antonio] Tarver that I can come back and then nearly beat the best cruiserweight.

''I've had an amazing career. I don't know what I'm going to do.''

Wlodarczyk defended his cruiserweight title for the third time and had to do it the hard way after being behind on points to improve his record to 46-2-1 (33 knockouts).

It was just Wlodarczyk's sixth fight outside of Poland and first title defence, but he felt that helped take away the pressure of expectations and he knew he had to let fly late.

''It was a great, great fight. Danny is a very tough and fast guy, too fast for me, but my punches were most prompt,'' Wlodarczyk said.

''I had some problems in one of the rounds [fifth] but I didn't want to show my opponent or referee that I was on my knee.''
