Reliant Arena, Houston, Texas - Danny Garcia (23-0, 14KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over four division world champion Erik Morales (52-8, 36KOs) to capture the vacant WBC junior welterweight title. Morales lost his WBC title at Friday's weigh-in when he failed to make weight.

The scores were 117-110, 116-112 and 118-109.

Morales kept the fight at a very slow and measured pace in the first two rounds. Morales was working a very good left jab and using his defensive skills to block Garcia's counters. In the third round, Garcia changed the distance and started landing several hard punches on Morales to push him around the ring. Morales came back in the fourth round by coming forward and outboxing Garcia.

In the sixth, Garcia once again started working Morales over with hard shots to the head and body. In the final thirty seconds, Morales came back with a rally of shots. The next couple of rounds were close. In the tenth, it appeared that Garcia's nose was possibly broken.

In the eleventh, Morales was on the attack and went down from a hard counter left-hook from Garcia. Morales was given some time to recover, and possibly saved from a KO, when Garcia hit him on the break and the referee spent a few seconds warning Morales. They started trading when the action resumed and a cut opened up around Garcia's left eye. In the twelfth, Garcia continued to control the action and punished Morales.
