Ginjiro Shigeoka will get another crack at Daniel Valladares.

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the IBF strawweight title consolidation bout is set for August 11 at EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan. The bout will air live on subscription-based app Abema TV, through which Kameda Promotions—headed by former three-division champion Koki Kameda—enjoys an exclusive deal.

The rematch will take place seven months after their truncated first meeting on January 6 at the same venue. Shigeoka appeared on his way to dethroning Mexico’s Valladares before a clash of heads left the visiting titlist unable to continue with just 12 seconds to go in the third round. The bout was declared a No-Contest but the reigning titlist from Monterrey, Mexico was still suffering the effects from that fight as the deadline approached to next face Cuarto within 90 days of his previous title defense.

Shigeoka (9-0, 7KOs; 1ND) was approved to fight for the interim IBF strawweight title, which he claimed in an off-the-canvas ninth-round knockout of former titlist Rene Mark Cuarto on April 16 in his Tokyo hometown. The same show saw the 23-year-old southpaw’s older brother, Yudai Shigeoka (7-0, 5KOs) claim the interim WBC title with a seventh-round knockout of former WBO titleholder Wilfredo Mendez.

The upcoming rematch will already mark Shigeoka’s third fight of 2023.

Valladares (26-3-1, 15KOs) has not fought since their first meeting.

The sequel will mark the second defense of the IBF title he claimed in a twelve-round win over Cuarto last July 1 in San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico. It will also mark his second straight fight on the road after he’d fought exclusively in Mexico dating back to his February 2014 pro debut. He is unbeaten in his lat five starts after he suffered back-to-back defeats in 2020.
