Jacobs extended the distance for the first time

Brooklyn middleweight prospect Daniel Jacobs went the distance for the first time in his tenth professional bout with a 60-52, 59-54, 59-53 six round unanimous decision over Puerto Rico’s Emmanuel Gonzalez.

Jacobs was very active in the open round, letting his hands go up and down on his opponent while leaving himself open to a few nice counter punches from Gonzalez.

Jacobs continued to press forward in round two, walking down Gonzalez until an impressive three punch combo put Gonzalez (9-3, 4KO) down hard to the canvas. The tough Gonzalez showed good poise in allowing the referee to count to eight before rising and fortunately for him the bell rung, signaling the end of the round.

Gonzalez was looking more to survive in rounds three and four and Jacobs (10-0, 9KO) obliged by taking his foot off the gas and working on his defense against the ropes.

Jacobs came out with more gusto in the fifth round , with a barrage of speedy punches, putting Gonzalez down for the second time in the fight. Jacobs didn’t finish off the job , seemingly letting Gonzalez into the fight and having some of his best moments at the end of round 5 and round six. Having knocked out his last 4 opponents in the first round, perhaps Jacobs didn’t mind getting a few rounds under his belt.

Collazo TKO’s Jordan

Former welterweight WBA champion Luis Collazo got in a nice workout under the sun before ending matters with a picture perfect right hook for the TKO over Russell Jordan at 2:28 of the eighth and final scheduled round.

Jordan, a lanky 6’2” southpaw from Rochester, NY put in a good effort and had a few decent moments against fellow southpaw Collazo, even pushing him back in the mid rounds, but Collazo’s class and combination punching took it’s tool on Jordan (15-6, 10KO) who faded and had nothing left when Collazo took him out.

Collazo (29-3, 14KO), a champion in 2005 and still only 27 years of age, fell short in a 2nd world title challenge to Shane Mosley in 2007, and will be looking to work his way back into title contention.
