Last week, some words were exchanged by boxing's pound-for-pound king Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Usman and his management are making what many view as laughable claims that Canelo is avoiding a potential cross-sport boxing match.

UFC President Dana White wants Usman to stay very far away from Canelo.

He thinks it's absurd for anyone to discuss the idea of Usman facing a boxer on the level of Canelo.

“[Usman] is the greatest welterweight of all time. He’s the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. He’s a stud. Stay away from Canelo,” White said to The Underground.

“This whole boxing thing… Tyson Fury is one of the best heavyweights of all time. The best heavyweights in the world can’t stand with this guy and fight him. Canelo Alvarez, I think he’s pound-for-pound the best fighter in the world in boxing. You know, nobody can beat him in boxing. Stop guys! Stop, stop.”

Adding to that, White explains that there is no demand for a Canelo vs. Usman encounter - despite what Usman and his management believe.

White partially blames himself for the constant chatter of cross-sport boxing matches, after coming together with Showtime in 2017 to stage the pay-per-view blockbuster between Floyd Mayweather and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.

“What you have to understand is when that fight happened [between Mayweather and McGregor], everybody was going f------ crazy over that fight. Everywhere I went people talked about it; the media, the fans, everybody wanted to see it. You know what I mean? Nobody’s knocking any doors down for any of these fights [like Canelo vs. Usman]. I get it, these guys all want to get out there and try it and do it. But it’s not it’s not even remotely close to being the same [as Mayweather-McGregor],” White said.
