HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Damon Allen was displayed a lot of potential early on in his career. It took him a while to demonstrate that Wednesday night, but when he did, he has the skills for boxing fans to keep an eye on.

Funny how things change in one round.

Allen hurt Danny Montoya multiple times in the third round, eventually winning by knockout at the Ray Dolby Ballroom when Montoya did not answer the fourth round.

Allen improves to 10-0, 4 KOs, while Montoya drops to 10-4, 7 KOs.

Montoya entered the bout against Allen having won his previous three bouts. He came to win as he took the fight to Allen during the first two rounds, catching the Philadelphia fighter with hooks to the head and body.

Allen did enough to win the first two rounds, but was not busy enough and did not work behind a consistent jab.

That all changed in the third round, as Allen unleashed a barrage of punches, culminating with overhand rights to the head. Allen measured Montoya with a jab, even walking him down more against the ropes.

Towards the end of the round, Allen hurt Montoya with a right hand to the head. Allen followed up with vicious hooks and crosses to the head, staggering Montoya back to his corner once the bell sounded to end the round. His corner advised referee Thomas Taylor to stop the bout, declaring Allen the winner.

"It felt so great to be the main event tonight," said Allen after the fight. "I was shocked that I took out my opponent like that so quickly. Everyone can expect to see a lot from me this year and see me fighting here in LA and back home on the East Coast.”

Lightweight Hector Tanajara (6-0, 4 KOs) stopped Francisco Medel in the opening round of a six round bout. Tanajara, who is trained by Robert Garcia, dropped Medel (9-3, 5 KOs) to a knew, courtesy of a left hook to the body. Medel was able to get up, but his corner advised referee Jack Reiss to stop the fight. Time of the knockout was 2:26. "I noticed before the fight that he was soft around the waist," said Tanajara after the fight. "I landed the hook and he never recovered."

Junior middleweight Alexis Salazar (7-3, 3 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over former world featherweight title challenger Hector Velazquez. Salazar was able to utilize his height advantage and athleticism to beat Velazquez to the punch. Velazquez (57-28-3, 39 KOs) was able to sneak in a counter right or hook, but mostly fought defensively and was not able to keep up with Salazar, who won 60-54 on all three judges' scorecards.

In the opening bout of the Golden Boy Promotions card, featherweight Edgar Valerio won a six round unanimous decision over Harold Reyes. It was Reyes (2-5-1) who used his quickness to counter Valero early on. Valerio (7-0, 4 KOs) began to walk Reyes down and by the second half of the fight, Reyes' punch output dropped considerably. Reyes attempted to score with counter and lead right crosses, but they did not offset the amount of punches Valerio connected. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Valerio, 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55.
