The last 5 fights of Damien "Sugar" Vazquez's (15-3-1) career haven't produced the results that he was looking for.  He went 1-3-1 in those fights with 3 of those fights coming above his natural fighting weight.

The 24-year-old southpaw fights under the Premier Boxing Champions' banner and will look to rebuild in 2022.  He said that the plan is to stay at 118 pounds and work his way back up to significant fights in the division.

"I am going to stay at 118 pounds. I feel a lot stronger and more comfortable there.  I went up to 122 for the opportunity.  Both divisions have a lot of good fighters but 118 is more natural for me. I want to take some tune up fights and then I can get right back in the mix with the top guys," Vazquez recently told BoxingScene.com.

Vazquez has been in the ring with many top fighters like Brandon Figueroa, Rau'shee Warren, and Juan Carlos Payano. If all goes as planned, Vazquez would like to secure a rematch against Payano at some point next year.

He doesn't have an exact date set up for his return to the ring but said that the plan is for it to take place in the first quarter of 2022.

"I am looking to get back in the ring sometime early next year. I know a lot of guys have been taking time off for the holidays but I have been working.  I have been back in train and have started running," Vazquez stated.
