Bob Santos has added another former Cuban amateur standout heavyweight to his rapidly growing stable of fighters.

The red hot trainer will now be training 2020 Cuban Olympian Dainier Pero at his Las Vegas base of operations.  Santos also trains Pero’s brother Lenier Pero, who is ranked #6 by the WBA in the heavyweight division.

Santos expects big things from the 23-year-old Dainier, who won several titles in the amateur ranks.

“Dainier will be a future world champion just like his brother. It won’t be long before Lenier is a champion and his little brother isn’t far behind him,” Santos told BoxingScene.com.

“He is just 23 but he has an extensive amateur background and packs a powerful punch. He will be on the fast track. In couple of years he will be making some serious noise.”

Plans are underway for Pero to make his pro debut in the near future.

“I’ve only been here a few weeks but I already have noticed a difference working with Coach Santos. There’s a lot of great fighters here in the gym and I can’t wait to get in the ring for my first pro-fight. I am going to make a lot of noise in the heavyweight division,” said Pero.

2022 has been a banner year for Santos. His accomplishments include leading a virtually unknown Hector Luis Garcia to a major upset victory over Chris Colbert in February and followed it up with a title winning effort against Roger Gutierrez in August. Those victories have led Garcia to a January 7th pay-per-view showdown against multi-division champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

He also guided Alberto Puello to a super lightweight title and Carlos Adames to the WBC interim middleweight title.

Santos stable of fighters also includes world champions Erick “Mini-Pacman” Rosa, former champion Mario Barrios and fast rising Cuban prospect Kevin Brown, among others.
