New York, NY- Vyacheslav "Czar" Glazkov (21-0-1, 13KOs) will have the chance to be a world champion come Saturday night when he faces Charles Martin (22-0-1, 20KOs) for the vacant IBF heavyweight crown at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Coming from the amateur school of boxing in Ukraine, he expected such a chance.

“Ukraine boxes well, we go to boxing school and good boxing tradition,” Glazkov told BoxingScene.com.  “We have a good amateur program and it translates to professional as you can see with me, Lomachenko, and other fighters. I am ready for this fight.”

Glazkov had been in negotiations with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilderin a main event slot for a showdown on the very same date. Instead he decided to stay with his IBF mandatory position. Once Tyson Fury was stripped of the belt for failing to agree to a mandatory defense, a bout between Glazkov and Martin was ordered. Wilder felt Glazkov took the easy route in not fighting him.

To that notion, Glazkov says, “I’m the official contender for the IBF and I have my obligation to fight for the title. He can say what he wants, we can fight after if he wants.”

As for his opponent Charles Martin, Glazkov feels his resume is thin.

“Martin is a big guy and a left hander. He don’t have [wins over] good opponents in the professional ring. I’m prepared to go in the ring and go in the ring with a big opportunity and I’m going to make the most of it.”
