Cyrus Pattinson has been ruled out of his rematch with Conah Walker after suffering an injury to his eye during training.

The 10 round welterweight fight had been due to headline Matchroom’s NXTGEN card in Newcastle on February 10th but in a now deleted tweet, Pattinson said:

“2 weeks before Christmas I left a sparring session with double vision. After 6 hours In the RVI, results from a CT showed a bleed from a  trauma behind my right eye. 5 weeks of wearing a patch, being unable to train and no signs of improvement I’ve been withdrawn from my upcoming fight on the 10th February.”

Pattinson (6-1, 4 KO’s) has become one of the most exciting fighters in British boxing over the past year. He came out on top after engaging in a war with former British champion, Chris Jenkins, in March but in August, an inspired Walker (12-2-1, 4 KO’s) proved to be too strong and too relentless and floored Pattinson three times, forcing his corner to retire him after eight violent rounds. It was a shock defeat but one Pattinson seemed determined to avenge.

The 29 year old had begun preparations for the rematch when the injury occurred but the health of his damaged eye must now take priority.
