Former British light-welterweight champion Curtis Woodhouse (24-7, 13 early) has revealed that he has decided to make a clean and complete break from boxing after Tweeting that he intends to retire for good rather than continuing his recent comeback.

The 38-year-old former Premiership footballer has decided to hang up his gloves after revealing that he has come to terms with the decision after taking some time to think it over.

‘Last night I officially retired for good from professional boxing,’ he Tweeted.  ‘First time I retired I wasn't ready, this time I am.  Blessed to of played my part in this fantastic sport.  I'll miss you all.’

Woodhouse made a comeback last year; he worked with promoter Stefy Bull and trainer Ray Doyle to notch up wins over Arvydas Trizno and Lewis van Poetsch (both W6), but a mooted fight against Wayne Hibbert failed to come off and Woodhouse has decided that enough is enough.

However, he will continue to be involved via his gym, the Curtis Woodhouse Elite Boxing Academy, and there can be no doubt that he will put maximum effort into the sport that he chose over football despite many questioning his decision to go pro with a four-round decision win over Dean Marcantonio in September 2006.

Woodhouse continued to play football for a few years, albeit at a lower level, and has since moved into management.  He currently manages Bridlington Town FC and will continue to switch between the two sports moving forward.

Although he experienced a few loses along the way, Woodhouse’s high-water mark was a Split Decision win over Darren Hamilton for the British belt in February 2014.  He dedicated the victory to his late father and took the famous Lonsdale title to his dad’s grave the next day.

Despite losing his first defence, a Majority Decision loss to Willie Limond in June 2014, Woodhouse remains proud of his defining achievement as well as the fact that he once played football in English football's toptier.

BoxingScene wishes him well in his future endeavours.
