North Bergen, NJ - Steve Cunningham (27-7, 13 KO’s) makes his Premier Boxing Champions debut when he takes on Antonio Tarver (31-6, 22 KO’s) later tonight in Newark. Cunningham has had a history of being involved in controversial decisions, usually on the wrong end. In his recent stint with promotional company Main Events, he felt he was on the wrong side of two decisions.

“I’ve been a lot of controversial fights that I thought I clearly won, especially the (Vyacheslav) Glazkov fight and the (Tomasz) Adamek fight,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com. “I was definitely comfortable knowing that I won. I didn’t think these things could happen at home. With Glazkov, they’re going to have to put him in front of people and he’s going to lose. He’s already lost a few times.”

Since joining the Al Haymon stable, he says things are much easier to attain.

“It’s a little different, things are good,” explained Cunningham. “We got a lot more of what we need without a lot of sacrificing. Shout out to Main Events, they did what they could. With Haymon, the resources are here. What you need for camp you got it, where you need to go, you got it. It takes little bit of stress of it. I told my wife ‘wow, this is how the other half of boxing is doing it.’ We’ve been in some tough situations promotional wise. We here now and I just want to put up these good fights and move on.”

When asked if he chose to move on from Main Events because of some decisions that haven’t gone his way, Cunningham stated, “To an extent, just one of those things in a business relationship, you can only go so far. It’s a good thing that they were on the same page with me. They understood what we were saying and they weren’t trying to hold us back. We still got a good relationship with Main Events. Its business and things got to keep moving.”

Move on to Friday when he takes on Tarver. Cunningham says he had the chance to move back down to cruiserweight but feels his challenges lie in his current division.

“(Tarver) is one of the biggest challenges, a 5 time world champ. I told (Al) Haymon, he asked if he wanted to go back to cruiserweight but it’s not a big challenge fighting at cruiserweight anymore. Fighting bigger guys is a challenge. I love challenges, they keep me going. “
