It seems that a Mexican civil war could be brewing, as a rematch inches closer between the super flyweight world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Francisco "Gallo" Estrada and the former world champion, Carlos Cuadras.

The rematch would take place on the tentative date of October 17 in the United States.

Cuadras has continued training hard and with great motivation at the gym in Hacienda Nueva Vida.

"We are waiting for the confirmation. I have not stopped training. I am very excited to win the fight. I hope that Estrada realizes that we should present a good fight. My promoter told me that it may be October 17 and that there may be very few fans because of the coronavirus... but whether or not [the fans will be there], I want the fight," Cuadras said.

The boxer from Guamuchil, Sinaloa, has always expressed his desire to avenge the close decision loss he suffered against Estrada in September 2017.

Although there has been talk of a rematch between Estrada  and WBA champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez - Cuadras, who shares the same promoter as Gonzalez, says that fight will not happen.

"My promoter [Japan's Akihiko Honda] has told me that he does not want ´Chocolatito´ González to fight Estrada, so there is a high probability [I'll get the fight], I think more than fifty percent, but I hope to sign the fight soon," Cuadras said.

"[The bout with Estrada was] a close and very controversial fight. First they gave me [the win on the scorecards] and then gave it to him. When he dropped me in the tenth round, he didn't hurt me but in the end the judges went with [him] and he beat me tightly [on the cards]. A second fight would help me correct my mistakes."

Cuadras explained that he is happy to train at the Hacienda Nueva Vida boxing gym, so he doesn't release the accelerator and remains very active.

"I spent some time training in Jiquipilco and now that we are here with the support of Mr. Aarón Silva using his first-class facilities," Cuadras said.

Carlos has been almost gone a year without fighting. His last fight was on September 14 of 2019 in Las Vegas, where he won by unanimous decision over ten rounds against "Chema" Cárdenas.
