California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd confirmed an earlier report this afternoon by BoxingScene.com/CSNBayArea.com that prior to his June 2 split draw with Lateef Kayode, cruiserweight Antonio Tarver tested positive for drostanolone, an anabolic steroid.

“Yes, he tested positive,” Dodd told BoxingScene.com/CSNBayArea.com about Tarver’s failed result.

Dodd then talked about the aftermath, which The Ring reported eaelier would involve a fine and suspension.

During his conversation with BoxingScene, the California commission boss elaborated on the appeals process.

“It’s going to be a no-decision,” Dodd said.  “Then there’s a suspension and a fine of $2,500.  He has an opportunity to appeal the process.  He has to provide written notice within 30 days.  There will be a hearing and a determination from the commission at that time.”

Dodd also went into specifics regarding what elements of the collected sample were actually tested.

“Right now, it’s only the ‘A’ (sample),” Dodd explained.  “We only test the ‘A’ sample.  What happens is if the individual wishes to view the sampling, and opening of the B sample, they can do that as well.”

According to Dodd, Tarver’s camp had not yet contacted him regarding the recent events.  “Not at this point, no,” Dodd said.
