COVID-19 has ruined another “FOX PBC Fight Night” main event.

BoxingScene.com has learned that Canadian welterweight Cody Crowley has tested positive for coronavirus and withdrew Thursday from his fight against Gabriel Maestre. Crowley (19-0, 9 KOs) and Maestre (3-0, 3 KOs) were set to meet August 7 for the vacant WBA interim welterweight title in a 12-round fight FOX was supposed to televise from The Armory in Minneapolis.

Premier Boxing Champions’ matchmakers were trying to secure a replacement Thursday night for Crowley, a Las Vegas resident who had hoped to exploit the biggest opportunity of his seven-year pro career versus Venezuela’s Maestre.

Maestre twice represented his home country in the Olympics. He is 34 years old, though, and Crowley would’ve represented a step up in competition for him.

Crowley’s withdrawal marked the second time this week that a “FOX PBC Fight Night” main event was altered due to COVID-19.

As first reported by BoxingScene.com on Tuesday, veteran heavyweight Gerald Washington contracted COVID-19 recently and pulled out of his 10-round fight against Michael Coffie (12-0, 9 KOs) on Saturday night at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Jonnie Rice (13-6-1, 9 KOs) was on standby and replaced Washington (20-4-1, 13 KOs), of Vallejo, California, on short notice a few days ago.

Two fights on the undercard Saturday night in Newark were scrapped Thursday due to COVID-19 as well.

As BoxingScene.com first revealed Thursday morning, veteran welterweight Justin DeLoach and junior lightweight prospect Maliek Montgomery tested positive for COVID-19 and thus withdrew from fights FS1 was set to broadcast after FOX’s main event between Brooklyn’s Coffie and Los Angeles’ Rice.

DeLoach (19-5, 10 KOs), of Augusta, Georgia, was set to face Philadelphia’s Paul Kroll (8-0, 6 KOs) in a 10-round bout. Montgomery (10-0, 10 KOs), of Macon, Georgia, was scheduled to meet Mexico’s Angel Contreras (10-4-2, 6 KOs) in another 10-rounder.

FOX’s three-bout broadcast August 7 also will include a 10-round welterweight fight in which Lithuania’s Eimantas Stanionis (13-0, 9 KOs) will battle Brooklyn’s Luis Collazo (39-8, 20 KOs), a former WBA 147-pound champion.
