Cornelius Bundrage was victorious late Saturday night, stopping Sergio Gomez at the Ford Community Center in Dearborn, Michigan.

With the win, Bundrage improves to 35-6, 20 KOs. Gomez, who resides in Managua, Nicaragua, drops to 20-21, 16 KOs.

It was the first time since September of 2015 that Bundrage appeared in a ring. In that fight, Bundrage lost his IBF junior middleweight title to Jermall Charlo.

Saturday was also a homecoming of sorts for the 43-year-old Bundrage as he was fighting for the first time in almost four years in his hometown of Detroit.

Bundrage wasted no time in getting to Gomez in the scheduled six round bout. Bundrage dropped Gomez twice in the first two rounds, courtesy of a barrage of punches to the head and body.

Bundrage dropped Gomez once more in the second, ultimately getting the stoppage win at 2:06.

"I'm happy to get that victory (Saturday night)," said Bundrage Sunday in a post on his social media. "I'm back at it in a few weeks. This is the year I shock the world again."

The plan for Bundrage is for him to fight again at the end of January or early in February.

In his previous fight on September 23, Gomez weighed 134.5 pounds, likely moving up three weight classes to fight Bundrage, who weighed 155.1 pounds at Friday's weigh-in.

Light heavyweight James Ballard of Detroit improved to 8-0, 3 KOs with a six round unanimous decision over Robert Guerra (2-4, 1 KO). Scores were 60-55, 58-55, and 57-56 in favor of Ballard.

The scheduled six round welterweight bout between Bakhtiyar Eyubov (11-0, 10 KOs) and Elvin Perez (28-16-4, 19 KOs) did not take place. Eyubov's promoter, Dmitriy Salita told Boxingscene.com  there was an issue with Perez's medicals that did not allow the fight to go forward.
