Michael Conlan stars in his second professional outing on Friday, in what is quite unusual for a novice of the professional game the Irishman has already headlined his own card and is set to do so again.

His opponent Alfredo Chanez has never been stopped before, but Matthew Macklin, speaking to RTE, expects another stoppage in Chicago: “He should look a million dollars, he should knock him out.”

The former World Title challenger argues that the Olympian was anxious in his debut because of the occasion but the knockout should come more naturally this time around.

“Last time he didn’t have much to beat in terms of opponent, but he had the whole occasion to deal with on his pro debut. Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Day, sold out, with Conor McGregor there - and even the promotional obligations involved.

“I don’t think he’ll be so anxious to try so hard this time. He’ll be more patient, more settled and put on a really good performance."

Much is expected of the amateur standout, with the personality and fan-base to be one of boxing’s biggest stars, but Macklin realises things have to be taken one step at a time.

“He’s the main event again and Top Rank want him to become a star, but you have to step away from all that and recognise it’s only his second pro fight as well, he’ll fight for a World Title in a couple of years.”

“They’ll be stepping him up," said Macklin. "Maybe even for Brisbane they’ll give him a step up because it’s on the Pacquiao card.”
