After losing his belt on the scales, Mauricio Lara lost the fight to Leigh Wood by getting out-worked. Coming into this fight, Lara had averaged 60 punches thrown per round over his last five fights. In this fight he averaged 26 punches thrown per round.

Wood averaged 23 jabs thrown per round, landing 87 to Lara’s 28. Even though Lara threw 17 more power punches, Wood landed 13 more. Wood out-landed Lara in every round, and knocked Lara down with an uppercut in the second round.

The scores were 118-109, 118-109 and 116-111.

The WBA title was only at stake for Wood, with Lara failing to make weight on Friday. 

Back in February, Wood was ahead on the cards when Lara knocked him out with a single hard hook in the seventh round.
