Chris Colbert has some work to do before proceeding to back up the many bold claims he has made ahead of his next fight.

The reigning WBA interim junior lightweight titlist was slightly over the divisional limit for his scheduled 12-round main event versus Mongolia’s Tugstsogt Nyambayar. The bout headlines a televised doubleheader, airing live on Showtime from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Brooklyn’s Colbert (15-0, 6KOs) hit the scale at 130.2 pounds, 0.2 pounds over the divisional limit. The 24-year-old Brooklyn native will have two hours to shed the extra weight in order to proceed with the second defense of his WBA interim title.

Colbert was initially 130.6 pounds before disrobing behind the makeshift TGB Promotions curtain in an effort to make weight.

Nyambayar (12-1, 9KOs) registered at a career-heaviest 129.6 pounds as he makes his junior lightweight debut. The 2012 Olympic Silver medalist took the fight on short notice, replacing an injured Yuriorkis Gamboa and moving up in weight for the interim title fight opportunity.

Opening the telecast, Miami’s Michel Rivera faces Spain’s Jon Fernandez in a scheduled 12-round WBA lightweight title eliminator.

Rivera (20-0, 13KOs) checked in at 134.4 pounds for his second fight of 2021. The 23-year-old Miami-based Dominican was a full ten pounds lighter, when he was 144 ½ pounds in an eighth-round stoppage of Anthony Mercado in a last-minute assignment this past February 27 in Los Angeles.

Fernandez (21-1, 18KOs) weighed 135 pounds after stripping down to his birthday suit for his first fight in the United States since September 2018. The previous stateside appearance resulted in the lone career loss for the 25-year-old native of Bilbao, Spain, having dropped a 10-round decision to O’Shaquie Foster. Fernandez has since won five straight, including a first-round knockout of Aristides Perez last February in his Bilbao hometown.

Both bouts will air live on Showtime along with an exclusive rebroadcast of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ eleventh-round knockout of previously unbeaten Mario Barrios atop the June 26 Showtime Pay-Per-View card from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
