The World Boxing Council declares three days of mourning for the passing away of our former WBC bantamweight champion Chucho Castillo.

According to medical reports, Chucho passed after some complications from a surgery he underwent several days ago.

Jesus Castillo Aguilera was born in Nuevo Valle de Moreno, Guanajuato on June 17th, 1944, who as boxer fought 67 fights.

He became one of the best bantamweights in Mexican history. He conquered the national title by defeating Jose Medel and then the world title by TKO over Ruben Olivarez at the Forum Inglewood, California during a card promoted by George Parnassus.

During several years of been classified among the best bantamweights in the world, he defeated great rivals such as Rafael Herrera, Chucho Pimentel, Bernardo Caraballo and former featherweight champion Rafael Ortega.

Courageous Castillo was boxer with great technique plus great power in both fists. His most remembered moments in boxing are his three bouts against Ruben Olivares to whom he lost the first and third battle and won the second.

He began his professional career in 1962 and retired in 1975.

His manager was Geronimo Eleuterio Lopez, who was known as “Coneja” Lopez, and then Juan Jose Torres Landa Garcia.

When he retired he left a record of 67 fights with 47 wins, 22 KO’s, 2 draws and 18 losses.
