World boxing champions Chris John and Daud Yordan are taking up light training workouts in the final phase of their preparations ahead of their Nov. 9 title defenses in Singapore.

Chris will face Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo of Thailand, who is said to have built killing punches that have stopped 27 opponents within the distance in his 44 wins. He has never lost.

“I have to anticipate the Thai’s long and short punches,” Chris said as quoted by Antara news agency in Semarang, Central Java on Monday.

Chris, nicknamed “The Dragon”, said he was entering light training to maintain his physical fitness.

It will be his second contest in seven months in the city state, having successfully defended his WBA (World Boxing Association) featherweight belt against Kimora of Japan on May 5. His preparation has included attending a training camp Perth before returning to Jakarta in October.

He said he was not sure yet when he would depart to Singapore.

“Maybe one week before the fight, I will be in Singapore,” he said.

Chonlatarn has won all 44 of his fights, 27 of which were knockout victories, while Chris has registered 47 wins, with 22 KOs and 2 draws.

Meanwhile, Daud, who will defend his IBO featherweight title against Choi Tseveenpurev of England, said he had just wrapped up his heavy training.

“Training with sparring partners is over and now he cools down to keep his weight,” his trainer and brother Damianus said.

“If Daud forced himself to take up heavy training, he might risk being injured,” he said, adding his current training regiment included sprinting and jogging.

“For sure, Daud is well prepared for the fight,” he said.

The match against Tseveenpurev will be the Indonesian’s first title defense after winning the belt by knocking out Lorenzo Villanueva of the Philippines, on the same date and at the same venue with Chris’ last bout.
