With less than a month left before Chris John’s next bout, the World Boxing Association featherweight super champion says he is 70 percent ready.

The 32-year-old will face Shoji Kimura at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, on May 5 and Chris is satisfied with his progress after more than a month of training at Harry’s Gym in Perth, Australia.

“After grueling physical training, my focus is now on the technical aspects of my fight against Kimura,” Chris told state news agency Antara. “I’m still doing physical exercises, but not as hard as in the first week . I can say that I am 70 percent ready.

“I’ve been sparring with two boxers at the gym. One of them is Matt Garlett, to work on strategies for my next bout.”

Chris said he would train in Australia for at least two more weeks before he traveled to Singapore for the last stage of his training regime.

“In Singapore I will adapt to the atmosphere and the situation there, so when the day comes I’ll be 100 percent ready to knock out Kimura,” Chris said.

The fight will be Chris’ 16th career title defense.

On the undercard of Chris’ fight, Daud Yordan will try to become the latest Indonesian world champion for when he fights Lorenzo Villanueva of the Philippines for the International Boxing Organization’s vacant featherweight title.

It will be the 24-year-old’s second attempt at a world title after losing to Chris last year.

“I’ve been training hard for the fight and I won’t be wasting my opportunity to get the title,” said Daud, who is 28-2-0 with 22 knockouts since turning pro in 2005. “I hope this time I can pull this off.”

Daud rejected Chris’s offer to train together in Perth as he preferred the home comforts of Ketapang, West Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, Web site Okezone.com has reported that about 4,000 seats are still available for the Singapore doubleheader.
