GLENDALE, Arizona – Chris Avila battered “Doctor” Mike Varshavski for much of their four-round cruiserweight fight Saturday night.

Avila landed numerous clean punches during the final three rounds and easily won a unanimous decision against a medical doctor who made his professional boxing debut on the Jake Paul-Anderson Silva undercard at Desert Diamond Arena. Judges Paul Calderon, Dennis O’Connell and Chris Wilson all scored their bout 40-36 for Avila.

The Russian-born, New York-based Varshavski, 32, is a practicing physician in Chatham, New Jersey. He also operates a popular YouTube channel that features health tips and entertainment.

Varshavski donated his entire $175,000 purse from his fight Saturday night to the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem.

Avila (2-1), of Stockton, California, is primarily an MMA fighter. He is a friend of UFC star and potential Paul opponent Nate Diaz, who watched this fight from ringside.

Avila landed a lot of clean punches on Varshavski during the fourth round and might’ve stopped his game opponent if he had more time.

A right hand by Avila staggered Varshavski with just under 15 seconds to go in the fourth round. Avila attempted to finish Varshavski, but Varshavski held him until the final bell sounded.

Avila unloaded a barrage of punches on a retreating Varshavski with just under a minute remaining in the fourth and final round.

An aggressive Avila landed a right hand that backed Varshavski into the ropes within the first 30 seconds of the fourth round.

Avila drilled Varshavski with a right hand just before the midway mark of the third round. Varshavski moved backward and shook his head to indicate that shot didn’t hurt him, but he had started to take a lot of flush punches at that point.

Varshavski’s thudding right to Avila’s body landed 1:10 into the third round.

Avila landed several punches in the second round prior to finally connecting with one of the many wild right hands he had thrown to that point in the bout. He also blasted Varshavski with a clean left hook with just over 20 seconds on the clock in the second round.

Avila’s left hook clipped Varshavski after Varshavski landed a right hand with just over 40 seconds to go in the first round. Avila threw several wild right hands from long distances during the first round, but he didn’t connect with any of those shots.
