World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (46-0, 38 KO’s) is training hard in Costa Rica for mandatory defense against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (41-4-1, (38 KO’s) of Si Sa Ket, Thailand.

The fight takes place on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at “The Mecca of Boxing”, Madison Square Garden in New York City. The fight is the HBO Pay-Per-View co-feature to the middleweight clash between Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.

In his last fight, Gonzalez won a twelve round decision over Carlos Cuadras on September 10 at The Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles, and became a four divisional world champion, the first in the Nicaragua’s history.

According to Gonzalez's coach Wilmer Hernandez, his fighter needs to perfect to win his upcoming fight, which he admits will have an opponent with very heavy hands.

Gonzalez took a lot of punishment in the contest with Cuadras, which is something they want to avoid with the tough Thai fighter. They are not focused on strength this time around in the camp. The two main objectives is defense and speed. They want to avoid the incoming punches and react quickly with counter shots.

"The idea is for Roman to receive less punches, to expose himself less to the punishment of his opponent's fists, to be a boxer with excellent waist movements," said Hernandez, who is the successor of Gonzalez's late trainer Arnulfo Obando."

"If Roman will increase the power of his fists, it will be known with greater certainty on the day of the fight. What I can say is that I see him being very strong in the gym. Even the boys who have been able to hang with him [in sparring] have expressed the sense of the strength - but that is not a clear indication of whether Roman has increased his strength, because these sparring partners had never been in camp with Roman in the past."
