WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has refused to entertain Saul "Canleo" Alvarez's request for a catch-weight of 156-pounds. Alvarez's promoter, Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya, will only make the fight if Chavez agrees to a catch-weight of 156.

Chavez's promoter, Top Rank, offered a catch-weight of 158, although Chavez's trainer Freddie Roach told BoxingScene.com that he prefers the full limit of 160-pounds. Chavez believes Golden Boy and Canelo's handlers are doing everything possible to prevent the fight from happening by taking a hard line with the catch-weight.

"I can not get down to 156 pounds. My body will not allow me to make that weight and I will not sacrifice myself for [Golden Boy] and give Canelo an advantage in the fight. I'm not afraid of the fight, it's what we want," said chavez Jr.
