Chavez Barrientes delivered a far more emphatic performance in his second stateside and televised appearance.

A one-sided showcase came of the night for the 18-year old junior featherweight, who forced overmatched Paul Carroll to quit on his stool after three rounds. A third-round knockdown and an accumulation of punishment was enough for Carroll’s corner to call it an evening in between rounds Saturday evening, live on FS1 from Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California.

Barrientes left a far more lasting impression than was the case in his Fox Sports debut this past October. There’s no denying the potential in the second-year prospect from Las Vegas by way of Honolulu, though he had assistance in looking spectacular thanks to the gross limitations of his opponent. Carroll had never previously faced an opponent who’d never faced an opponent with a win on his record by fight night.

Still, there was plenty of will in Carroll, a 36-year old from Columbia, South Carolina who was fighting away from his home base for the first time in his career. Barrientes was at least forced to overcome an awkward style in front of him, managing just that by the end of the opening round.

Barrientes scored the bout’s lone knockdown, flooring Carroll (4-2, 4KOs) midway through round three courtesy of a long right hand. Carroll beat the count and made it out of the round, but fear for his safety prompted his corner to inform referee Eddie Hernandez Sr. that their charge was done for the night.

The win advances Barrientes’ record to 4-0 (3KOs). The lean and mean prospect made his debut on FS1 this past October, scoring a six-round decision over Ivan Varela. The bout was also his first in the U.S., as was the case for twin brother Angel Barrientes (3-0, 3KOs) who faces Tuscaloosa, Alabama’s Travon Lawson on this later in the vening.

Saturday’s bout was far more lopsided for Chavez Barrientes, who landed 58-of-141 punches (41%), compared to just 6-of-39 (15%) for Carroll.

The bout aired on the PBC on FS1 undercard telecast, preceding a PBC on Fox telecast headlined by unbeaten super middleweight David Morrell (3-0, 2KOs) versus Mike Gavronski (26-3-1, 16KOs).
