Heavyweight contender Charles Martin (23-1-1, 21KOs) was not happy with the referee's stoppage on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London.

Martin traveled over to the UK to make the first defense of his IBF world title against Olympic gold medal winner Anthony Joshua (15-0, 15KOs).

The fight was stopped in the second round, with Joshua drilling Martin down with big right hands. Martin was caught and dropped once by a big right. Martin made it up to his feet and was knocked down again by another big right a few seconds later. The fight was stopped as Martin got up to his feet.

Martin feels the referee should allowed the fight to continue.

"He could have let that slide. I was up, I wasn't hurt. I came at me at six, I knew I had to get up. I took a deep breath, got up and then that's when he called it off," Martin told BoxingScene.com.

He says Joshua's right hand was much faster than expected and he never saw the big shots that caught him. According to Martin, he wasn't seriously hurt by the punches and says the big shots were just powerful enough to send him down.

"He just had a fast right hand. The first one didn't hurt me. It was like a flash knockdown. I wasn't hurt, it was just a good clean shot that I didn't see. I got up, but I didn't see the other one either. I threw the jab and I was going to come in with a left, and then he threw the right hand," Martin said.
