2300 Arena, Philadelphia - In a battle of undefeated light heavyweight prospects, Charles Foster (16-0, 8 KOs) was viewed as the underdog by some, but he outboxed Alvin Varmall (15-1-1, 12 KOs) for an eight round unanimous decision. The scores were 77-75, 78-74 and 79-73.

Foster was winning the battle in the first half of the opening round with his height and reach, but then Varmall started slowly coming on at the end.

In the second round they were trading with big shots, but it was Varmall who was doing more damage with the much harder shots.

When the bell rang for the third, Varmall went right after Foster and was looking to land something big. Foster was landing some punches of his own, with far less power. In the fourth, Varmall continued to come forward and was trying to stay close to Foster, fighting on the inside wth power punches. Foster was making small adjustments and landing shots when Varmall would charge in.

Foster continued to create distance and was outworking Varmall in the fifth round. Varmall was swinging with very wide hooks and walking in a bit reckless and getting caught with punches. He managed to catch Foster with two big shots in the closing seconds.

Varmall was unable to change the tide in the sixth, as Foster continued to use his height and reach advantage to box and land good shots. The seventh round was more of the same. Foster was just outboxing Varmall, who was doing nothing more than charging in with big punches.

In the eight and final round, Foster just continued to box as Varmall was in desperation mode and going for broke. Varmall couldn't really do much of anything, as his power punches had already lost their steam.
