As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, the World Boxing Association stripped Lucas Browne of the WBA's 'regular' heavyweight title after his B-sample tested positive for clenbuterol.

The B-sample was analyzed by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA for its acronym in English), and based on that finding the Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association stripped him of his title, and suspended him for six months in accordance with the rules of the organization

Browne won his WBA belt with a spectacular knockout victory over Ruslan Chagaev in March.

As part of the WBA's order, Chagaev will have 120 days to negotiate a fight with Fres Oquendo, who by court order in the United States is entitled to this world title confrontation.

There was some question on whether or not Chagaev planned to continue his career as he recently announced his retirement. If he chooses to continue, he will immediately reclaim the WBA belt which he lost to Browne.

Chagaev's manager Timur Dugazaev's says his fighter will continue forward, and make a mandatory defense against Oquendo as requested by the WBA.

"Yesterday we received the WBA's resolution which stated that Brown stripped of the title and banned for six months. Ruslan is now in America. We were given three months to arrange a fight with Oquendo. Ruslan has a good chance to reach the finals of the [WBA's] heavyweight tournament. He will continue to work," Dugazaev said.

After his A-sample came up positive, Browne (24-0, 21KOs) made allegations that his food or drink was tainted once he landed in Russia for the contest. According to the WBA, the responsibility lies with Browne and his team on what is ingested prior to the contest.

Tyson Fury holds the WBA's super title at heavyweight, and has a rematch scheduled with Wladimir Klitschko on July 9th.

Earlier this year, WBA ordered a tournament to establish one champion. The winner of Chagaev-Browne was always due to face Oquendo on their side of the tournament bracket. On the other side, WBA interim-champion Luis Ortiz will take Alexander Ustinov, and then the winner will collide with the winner of July's rematch between WBA 'super' champion Tyson Fury and challenger Wladimir Klitschko. Then the Chagaev-Oquendo winner will clash with the winner of Ortiz/Ustinov vs. Fury/Klitschko.
