Entering a fight week bubble will not be of any concern to Cassius Chaney, considering he spends his daily routine training and living in such an environment.

The unbeaten rising heavyweight will fight for the first time in a pandemic-stricken 2020, facing veteran divisional trialhorse Chauncey Welliver (57-12-5, 23KOs). The scheduled eight-round bout takes place this Friday on the undercard of a Boxeo Telemundo telecast (12:00am ET) which airs live from a crowdless Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

For Chaney (18-0, 12KOs), the entrance into the on-site bubble—where he will remain quarantined to and through the end of fight week—will come after spending most of the past five months quarantined with the rest of his training team in Miami. The 33-year old heavyweight was among five boxers who agreed to live in the eight-bedroom sports complex owned by head trainer German (Herman) Caicedo, doing so long ago before he was even guaranteed a fight date.

“There’s nothing like waking up and living in the gym, even though I [had no set fight date and I’m quarantined,” Chaney noted to BoxingScene.com. “Being part of the Caicedo Boxing team is great and I’m glad to be learning the craft and science of boxing from German Caicedo.”

Chaney remained hard at work following a productive 2019 campaign. The Main Events-promoted heavyweight scored four knockouts in as many fights, including a 1st round knockout of Joe Caudle last July which featured a knockdown which went viral. The well-conditioned 6’6”, 250-ish pound heavyweight sent Caudle headfirst out of the ring midway through the opening round, finishing him off soon thereafter as part of a seven-fight knockout streak he carries into the ring this weekend.

A 3rd round stoppage of Nick Jones last November marked the most recent ring appearance for Chaney, who has spent the past nine months perfecting his craft. A rare break from Caicedo’s gym was spent helping heavyweight contender Otto Wallin—his managerial stablemate under brilliant boxing mind Zachary Levin—prepare for his latest win, a 5th round stoppage of Travis Kauffman earlier this month live on Showtime in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Once it was time for Wallin to fight, it was back to the lab for Chaney in order to perfect the winning formula for his own ring appearance this weekend. Living in the office has offered as many benefits as it requires sacrifice, which he firmly believes will provide a long-term payoff.

“This environment suits me best because it’s all business and passion in the atmosphere,” notes Chaney. “I’m looking forward to becoming a man and pursuing the ultimate goal and that’s to be undisputed heavyweight champ of the world.”
