Boxingscene.com:  How is training camp?

Miguel Cartagena:  Great.  Real good.  It was a great 8 weeks since the card was pushed back from the 3rd to the 18th.  I had an extra 2 weeks.  I made weight with ease.  I feel strong mentally and physically.

Boxingscene.com:  Who have you been working with for this fight?

Miguel Cartagena:  I have been training with Raul Rivas also Main Objective Fitness for strength & conditioning. Also Rasheem Jefferson is my number 2.

I don't know any of the guys I am sparring with.  They do not stay in camp long enough.

Boxingscene.com:  What do you know about your opponent?

Miguel Cartagena:  I don't know anything at all.  I didn't even look into him.  It doesn't matter to me.  I am confident in my training both mentally and psychically.  The division I am in, super flyweight, opponents always get switched up so I am use to not knowing.

Boxingscene.com:  Your opponent has never been stopped.  Will you be gunning to be the 1st?

Miguel Cartagena:  He has never been stopped?  See you know more about him than I do.  I'm not shooting for a KO.  I am just shooting for the win.  It doesn't matter how I win as long as I win.

Boxingscene.com:  With a victory tonight, what is your game plan for 2014?

Miguel Cartagena:  Keep on fighting.  Try to get more fights.  Train harder.  Keep on fighting until the next level.

Boxingscene.com:  For the fans who are not familiar with you, how did you get into boxing?

Miguel Cartagena:  My dad signed me up.  I went to the gym at 1st and never left.  I hated it for the 1st month and a half. My dad told me to stick it out and I never looked back.  Now I do it for myself and my newborn son.  I fight to open doors for him that were opened for me when I was growing up.

Boxingscene.com:  Tell me about your amateur background?

Miguel Cartagena:  I was 147-11.  I won many tournaments.  I won the National Golden Gloves 4 times.  I won the AIBA World Games and US National Championships.  I fought all over the world.  I think 9 different countries.  I fought in Italy, England, Russia, Germany, Japan and more.

Boxingscene.com:  What fight did you learn the most from?

Miguel Cartagena:  Fighting the Italian Gold Medalist.  I lost the 1st time but won the 2nd time.  I learned the  most from him.

Boxingscene.com:  Who was your favorite fight growing up?

Miguel Cartagena:  Roy Jones Jr. & the old (good) Zab Judah.

Boxingscene.com:  How do you feel about you fight being shown around the world LIVE on GFL.tv?

Miguel Cartagena:  Pretty excited .  I have been on TV before.  I am starting to get use to it.  I was the opening bout for Judah-Garcia on Showtime.

Boxingscene.com:  Who are you picking in the Main Event?  Bobby Gunn or Glen Johnson?

Miguel Cartagena:  I am picking Bobby Gunn.  He is the local guy and I support him 100%!

Boxingscene.com:  What can fans watching expect from you?

Miguel Cartagena:  A nice, explosive, and exciting fight!

Boxingscene.com:  Is there anyone you want to shout out?
