Some mid-rounds adversity wasn’t enough to knock Carlos Diaz (24-0, 11 KO) off track on Saturday night at the Domo del Parque San Rafael in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The 22-year old Diaz, 132, of Guadalajara, won at least eight rounds en route to a unanimous ten-round main event decision over 30-year old Sergio Puente (25-5, 11 KO), 131 ¼, of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The referee was Jesus Salcedo.

After a solid start for the longer armed Diaz, Puente started to make things uncomfortable with a pressuring fourth round effort. Puente appeared to rock Diaz early in the fifth, pushing Diaz to reassert himself as the round wore on. Ultimately, Diaz resumed control of the action and carried the action the rest of the way, purpling the left eye of Puente even as the jab of Puente bruised his own.

The unanimous decision was academic at scores of 99-91 and 98-92 twice. Diaz entered the bout rated second by the WBO at featherweight.

Action in the women’s flyweight division saw former IBF light flyweight titlist Irma Sanchez (29-7-1, 8 KO), 110, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, rebound from a loss in her last start with a six-round unanimous decision over Maria Guadalupe Atilano (0-3-1) of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. Final scores were a matching 60-54 across the board.

In women’s bantamweight action, 23-year old Joselyn Arroyo Ruiz (19-1, 7 KO), 116, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, scored a six round unanimous decision over 20-year old Maricruz Rodriguez Gonzalez (1-3, 1 KO), 117, of Mexico City, Mexico. Scores came in at 58-56, 59-55, and 60-54 but Gonzalez gave a solid go of it and celebrated her effort against a more veteran foe at the final bell.

The televised action began in the bantamweight division.

22-year old Emanuel Navarette (20-1, 17 KO), 118, of Distrito Federal, Mexico, scored his third straight stoppage, going through 20-year old Luis Bedella (19-3, 16 KO), 118, of Zamora, Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico, in two rounds. It was the first stoppage loss of Bedella’s career. Navarette dropped Bedella in the final minute of round two with a beautiful left uppercut, sending Bedella into the turnbuckle with a bloodied nose. Bedella got up but his face screamed surrender and he nodded passively in agreement as referee Jesus Salcedo waved the action off 2:28 of the second.

Navarette entered the bout rated fourth by the WBA at Jr. featherweight.

The card was televised in the US on BeIn Espanol, promoted by Zanfer.
