Carlos Arrieta doesn’t have any type of gimmick that measures up to his opponent’s usual post-fight dance celebration.

What he plans to bring to the table is the promise that Luis Nunez doesn’t get the opportunity to perform his signature “Twist” at the end of the night.

“Unfortunately, I don’t have any dance moves of my own,” Arrieta confessed to BoxingScene.com ahead of his upcoming ten-round junior lightweight bout with Nunez. “I will just be overjoyed with getting the win on a stage like this. That is what you will see in the ring.”

Arrieta (14-0, 8KOs) and Nunez (15-0, 11KOs) are two of six unbeaten fighters appearing on Showtime’s 2022 season premiere of ShoBox this Friday from Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando. Series viewers were given a glimpse of Dominican Republic’s Nunez in his previous fight, soundly outpointing then-unbeaten Jayvon Garrett last September in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The win was celebrated by the unbeaten Dominican performing his signature dance—to the classic tune by legendary Chubby Checkers—alongside promoter Sampson Lewkowicz.

Arrieta has simply just celebrated winning throughout his six-plus year career, though outside the scope of a U.S. televised audience. That was the reason for the unbeaten prospect from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico stepping up to the challenge for Friday’s main event.

“I had no idea who he was,” admits Arrieta, who has been out of the ring for 14 months heading into this weekend’s pivotal showdown. “They presented me with the fight and I said yes. I didn’t care who he was.

“They said that he was a good fighter. It’s the chance for me to shine against a fighter they say is “it.”
