Carlos Adames (21-1) Is shaking his head at recent comments made by Jaime Munguia (38-0).

The Tijuana, Mexico native is scheduled to take on D’Mitrius Ballard on February 19th in his hometown in a DAZN streamed main event.

In a recent article on BoxingScene.com by Jake Donovan, Munguia explained why he is fighting Ballard instead of Adames in an eliminator that would guarantee the winner a shot at WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

“Carlos Adames fought in December. We already had the February 19 date,” Munguia explained of why he’s facing Ballard instead of Adames. “Carlos wasn’t ready to fight that soon so we moved forward and rescheduled the fight with Ballard.”

When Munguia’s comments were relayed to Adames, the Dominican became even more frustrated.

“Why would he say I wasn’t ready?  His team never contacted my team. I am ready now. I can fight him tomorrow. The only reason I would wait until tomorrow is so that we can weigh in today,” Adames stated.

“I don’t know what Munguia’s people are telling him. Maybe they don’t have as much confidence in him as he does. Before I fought (Sergiy) Derevyanchenko, they kept saying they would fight the winner and talked like Dervenchenko was going to win for sure. Now that I won I don’t hear his team mentioning my name anymore.”

Adames upset Dervenchenko on December 5th by majority decision on the Gervonta Davis-Isaac Cruz pay-per-view undercard. He has now won three fights in a row since suffering his only professional defeat.

“My goal is to become world champion.  I’m sure Munguia wants to become champion again. So why won’t he fight me when he knows the winner gets a shot at the title next?” Said Adames.
