Eddy Reynoso, trainer for WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs), has backed his fighter's position to refuse the middleweight limit of 160-pounds for a mandated title defense against WBA/IBO/IBF middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).

CurrentlyCanelo is training hard for his upcoming title defense against British starAmir Khan (31-3, 19KOs). Golovkin is scheduled to face IBF mandatory challenger Dominic Wade on April 23rd at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.

Canelo- Khan takes place on May 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight with Khan is taking place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds. Canelo's last four fights have taken place at 155. Canelo has already stated, in several interviews, that he won't face Golovkin at the full middleweight limit of 160-pounds. Because Golovkin is the mandatory challenger, he is under no obligation to weigh any lower than 160.

Golovkin and his team have already gone on record, that GGG is not going to consider the option of dropping down to a catch-weight - at least not while he's the mandatory challenger.

"We have always been facing the toughest fighters: Mayweather, Cotto - who are much better than Golovkin. Also with Trout, Lara, Angulo - at the time we face them we had no problems with the negotiations. Boxing is also administration; the plan is that Canelo wants to fight at 155 pounds. Right now we do not plan to go up to 160 pounds. I don't see anyone in [Golovkin's] history that wasn't afraid when they faced him. Ah, yes, there was one, [Marco Antonio] Rubio (Eddy used an ironic tone). You know a Mexican fighter is not afraid of anyone," Reynoso said.

"The administration is very important and we have to do what is appropriate, and [Golden Boy President Oscar] De La Hoya take care of [the negotiations]. We can handle fights at 154 pounds. We fought at 155 because Cotto wanted it. We do not hide from anyone. We would fight with Tyson Fury to earn more money, or Klitschko."
