World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman is a big fan of the Mexican mega-fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (48-1-1, 34KOs). He called it a "very attractive fight."

BoxingScene.com first reported on Wednesday that both sides are discussing a pay-per-view fight for May 6th and a catch-weight of 165-pounds. Chavez, who competes at super middleweight, would have to move down by three pounds. And Canelo - who holds the WBO junior middleweight title - would have to go up by eleven.

Chavez Jr. returned to the ring last Saturday night and won a hard-fought ten round unanimous decision over Germany's Dominik Britsch (32-3-1, 11KOs) in Monterrey, Mexico.

Although there is no official title at stake, Sulaiman would be more than happy to get his organization involved with the fight.

"It would be a fight of great interest. What we do when we participate in events that are outside of a title - is we're in there to give them the seal of guarantee with the respect to the administration of the fight.... with rules, with medical exams, with all the infrastructure. If they asked us, we would support that fight and participate, " Sulaiman said.

For his most recent fight, Chavez Jr. weighed in at 167.8-pounds. Sulaiman felt that he looked very good physically and performed very well in the ring.

"It's a fight that has been speculated for six years when they both started to excel in their careers and the two were already world champions. They have taken very different paths. Chavez just come back with a solid win, he made the weight very well, and he looks very good physically... he looks really good," Sulaiman said.

Sulaiman does admit that it makes more sense to see either boxer in the ring with WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin.

"'Canelo-Golovkin makes more sense or Golovkin-Chavez, but any of those combinations is tremendous," Sulaiman concluded.
