According to former world junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs), the articles which discuss a potential fight between him and Manny Pacquiao are nothing more than rumors. He says the rumors first began when Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya had a meeting with Bob Arum, the CEO of Top Rank, to make peace between their two companies.

Canelo prepares for a Showtime Pay-Per-View clash against WBA "regular" super welterweight champion Erislandy Lara on July 12 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"These are nothing more than rumors, rumors [which began] because Oscar spoke to Arum to make peace but never discussed this fight. The media began to speculate [about that fight] but it was never discussed. Right now we have Lara but [if that fight comes along, Pacquiao is] clearly one of the best and you have to fight the best," stated Canelo.
