Eddy Reynoso, the manager/trainer of Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, is hoping to finalize a unification deal with unbeaten Caleb Plant.

It was officially revealed on Friday, by promoter Eddie Hearn, that Canelo was pushing back his next ring return.

Canelo was scheduled to fight on September 18, as part of Mexican Independence Day weekend.

At the moment, Canelo's next fight is being positioned for the month of November.

Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) was in action back in May, when he stopped Billy Joe Saunders to unify the WBO, WBC, WBA world titles at super middleweight.

Plant (21-0, 12 KOs) holds the final piece of the puzzle - with the IBF's world title around his waist.

The two sides were initially in talks to fight in September as the headline bout of a Fox Sports Pay-Per-View event from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas - but last week the negotiations fell apart and Canelo's handlers began discussions for a catch-weight bout with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.

According to Reynoso, his side has now reignited talks with Plant’s representatives at Premier Boxing Champions, for a four belt unification showdown.

A potential fight with Bivol is no longer being pursued.

“The project we have before us now [is] to unify at 168. We are working real hard on this, and hope to get all this together,” Reynoso told The Athletic.

One of the deal points that Canelo is not interested in, is agreeing to anything more than a one-fight deal with Al Haymon's PBC.

“We are free agents and go fight by fight,” Reynoso said.

If Canelo fights in November, it would mark his fourth ring appearance in a twelve month period of time.

Plant saw action on January 30, when he retained his title with a lopsided twelve round decision win over former world champion Caleb Truax.
