Los Angeles - Due to a persistent ankle injury, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) must withdraw from his December 6th bout. Golden Boy Promotions and HBO are reviewing their options for the December 6 date

Canelo, who fought his last five fights on Showtime, recently signed a multi-year contract with HBO. He was scheduled to face former welterweight champion Joshua Clottey on the date, with a May 2015 showdown looming with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Coincidently, Cotto was scheduled to fight in December as well, but made a decision to push back his return to 2015.

Canelo's decision to walk away from the December date on HBO could open up the door for Amir Khan to fight on Showtime. Khan, who fights under the Golden Boy banner, was looking at December 6th for his next fight.

Canelo saw action twice in 2014, stopping Alfredo Angulo in the month of March and then winning a close twelve round decision over WBA 'regular junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara in July. Both of those fights were carried by Showtime Pay-Per-View.
