Campbell Hatton enjoyed a far more memorable night in the ring than was the case in his previous fight on home soil.

The second-generation boxer preserved his unbeaten record with a sixth-round stoppage of Joe Ducker (9-9-2, 2KOs). Hatton was well on his way to a seemingly inevitable points win before an accumulation of punches prompted a stoppage at 2:23 of the sixth and final round Sunday evening at The O2 in London.

Cheshire’s Hatton returned to the United Kingdom for the first time since his close call with Sonni Martinez last September. The 21-year-old lightweight prospect—whose father Ricky Hatton was a two-division champion and one of the most popular British fighters in modern day history—claimed a one-point victory in a six-round fight many felt should have gone the other way.

Hatton has since responded by avoiding the scorecards in each of his last two starts. A trip quick to Bilbao, Spain last December saw Hatton pick up a second-round stoppage—the first of his career—before making his way back to the U.K. for his first fight of 2022. A far stronger showing was offered this time around versus Leicester’s Ducker, a made-to-order career opponent who at least extended Hatton some rounds and was on the verge of going the distance although contending with a cut over his right eye.

The fight came to a sudden ending late in round six. Hatton went on the attack, letting his hands go to the point where referee Chas Coakley felt Ducker was no longer fit to continue. The stoppage came with just 0:37 left in the fight, much to the dismay of Ducker who felt he could have made it to the finish line.

The fight marked just the second time that Hatton has fought past the fourth round; the lone other occasion coming in his aforementioned close encounter with Martinez.

Hatton-Ducker opened a rare Sunday boxing card on DAZN, topped by WBO cruiserweight titlist Lawrence Okolie (17-0, 14KOs) in his second title defense versus Poland’s Michal Cieslak (21-1, 15KOs).
