Chantelle Cameron appears to have ruled out a third fight with Katie Taylor happening imminently.

Cameron took to social media and declared that instead of engaging in trilogy fight the undisputed super lightweight champion “will take a keep busy fight”, which would likely be a mandatory defence of one of her 140lbs titles.

In May 2023, Cameron travelled to the 3 Arena in Dublin to defend the undisputed super lightweight title against Taylor, and she deservedly earned a majority decision after outboxing and outfighting the Irish icon.

Six months later they renewed hostilities at the same venue, where Taylor produced a remarkable display to avenge her sole defeat and to take Cameron’s belts. After 10 bloody and relentless rounds Taylor was awarded a majority decision to become the undisputed champion in a second weight division and to even the score with her rival.

Afterwards Cameron and her team complained loudly about the treatment she received from the referee Roberto Ramirez, believing that the Puerto Rican official made a costly mistake by missing a knockdown when Taylor touched down in the opening round, and also ignoring her tactic of clinching Cameron to prevent the 32 year old from working inside.

They, similarly, felt that he failed to adequately punish Taylor for the clash of heads that opened a significant cut on Cameron’s forehead.

With the intensity of their rivalry increasing, attention immediately turned to a decisive third fight.

A plan existed to stage it outdoors at Croke Park, but the difficulty of aligning television dates ruled out the famous stadium, and all signs seemed to point to the pair returning to Dublin’s 3 Arena on May 25, until Cameron’s social media post threw that into doubt.

“Just an update on talks with the Katie fight,” she wrote. “I have agreed to a massive purse reduction to make this fight happen financially as this was what I was told was the hold up from the fight being agreed. The reason is because I wanted to create my own legacy.

“Now it looks like Katie will take a ‘keep busy’ fight to avoid me as I think she knows that certain things that went her way in the last fight won’t happen again.

“Sorry to the actual boxing fans who wanted to see this fight but the trilogy not happening is down to Katie and her team and not me.”

Cameron recently replaced Jamie Moore as her trainer with Grant Smith.
