Joe Calzaghe has fired back at fellow former world champion Carl Froch.

During a recent edition of his podcast, Froch explained that he was willing to come out of retirement for the right fight - and that right fight is a showdown with his career rival, Calzaghe.

Back when Calzaghe reigned supreme at super middleweight, Froch was coming up in the ranks and tried hard to get him in the ring.

The fight never happened. Calzaghe moved up in weight to win a world title at light heavyweight and retired from the sport not long after that.

Once Calzaghe walked away from the sport, Froch became one of the best fighters in the super middleweight division with victories over Jean Pascal, George Groves, Arthur Abraham, Mikkel Kessler, Lucien Bute and several others.

But Calzaghe appears to have no interest in taking Froch up on his offer.

"It's mad, I'm still living in his head after all these years," Calzaghe told talkSPORT. "I've done everything you can achieve in boxing.

"I know what would have happened and I don't take much notice of what he says. I'm 48 and I've been retired 10 years, I'm happy with my career. When I was at my peak I'd have been too fast and too sharp for him. I think I'd have beaten any super-middleweight, maybe not Roy Jones Jr at his peak."

Calzaghe admits that he knew his career was over back in 2007, when he defeated Mikkel Kessler. He had two more fights, with Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins, and then retired a year later in 2008.

"After the fight with Mikkel Kessler I knew that was the end. I spoke to my dad and said I wanted to fight Bernard Hopkins, who was Ring Magazine champion, to leave a legacy. What mattered wasn't someone piping up, there are always contenders, it was going to America and I did that," Calzaghe said.
