The retired Joe Calzaghe told his personal website, that he would have been too strong and too fast for WBA/WBC Andre Ward - if the fighters would have met in Calzaghe's prime. Calzaghe (46-0, 32KOs), who retired undefeated in 2009, won every major title at 168-pounds, before a move to light heavyweight to face Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. Last Saturday, Ward (25-0, 13KOs) unified the WBA/WBC titles and won the Super Six tournament with a twelve round decision over Carl Froch, a one-time domestic rival of Calzaghe.

"It was a shame for Carl, I really fancied him to do it before the fight, but Ward was the clear winner on the night. I was impressed with the way Ward boxed on the inside, he looked to spoil a lot, he's a very clever fighter. I think the way Ward fights would have suited me to be honest, I would have had too much speed and power for him - so yes, I would have beaten him, but congratulations to him and his team and I hope he goes on to have a good career," Calzaghe said.
