‘King’ Callum Walsh, (7-0, 6 KOs), of Cork, Ireland will now make the first defense of his WBC US Silver super welterweight Title against ‘El Pitbull’ Juan Jose Velasco, (24-4, 15 KOs), of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the scheduled ten-round main event on Saturday, August 26 at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, CA and broadcast globally on UFC Fight Pass.

The original opponent for Walsh, Livan Navarro, suffered a training injury and had to withdraw from the title fight. The more experienced Velasco has battled numerous world champions and top contenders including Regis Prograis, Zachary Ochoa, Elvis Rodriguez and Mario Berrios. The upset minded Argentinian looks to return to the win column against the heralded Walsh following a hotly contested split decision loss against Flavius Blea on May 5, 2023 in Mioveni, Romania.

“While it was unfortunate that Livan Navarro was injured, Juan Jose Velasco presents another very tough challenge for Callum Walsh,” said promoter Tom Loeffler.

“We’ve got more exciting fights to announce this week for this outstanding card on August 26 at the Commerce Casino and broadcast on UFC Fight Pass. Tickets for this event are moving very fast and I strongly encourage fans to purchase well in advance to ensure entry on fight night.”

Trained by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach at the famed Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood, CA, the 22-year-old southpaw Walsh earned the WBC US Silver super welterweight title with a dominant performance and fourth round stoppage of world title challenger Carson Jones in front of a sold-out Commerce Casino crowd on June 9.
