Caleb Truax, normally a slow starter, created huge momentum in rounds 1-5 (110-44 overall, 20-4 jabs, 90-40 power) with constant aggression, much better volume (67 per round to 40.8 during that stretch) and ring generalship as he maneuvered James DeGale toward the ropes and pounded away at every opportunity.
The fifth was Truax's best round as he hurt DeGale with right hands and bloodied his mouth, going a fight-high 34 of 109 overall and 27 of 71 power.
From there, Truax remained the aggressor and only in the final round did he decelerate enough for DeGale to out-land him (13-6); otherwise it was all Truax.
However, because DeGale was the home country champion -- and because Truax was a 16-to-1 underdog -- the fight was scored a majority decision instead of a unanimous one.
Truax threw more (61.1 per round to DeGale's 37.8), landed more (225-113 overall, 41-12 jabs, 184-101 power) and did so more accurately (31%-25% overall, 15%-5% jabs to offset DeGale's 43%-40% lead in power accuracy).
Truax also threw nearly twice as many power punches (456-233), jabbed better (23.1 thrown/3.4 connects per round to DeGale's 18.3/1.0) and produced a much better body attack (97-51). Scoring: 116-112, 115-112 T, 114-114.

WBA, IBO Champion Lara and IBF Champion Hurd will meet for just the sixth unification bout in division history in a fight that will help define the future of the 154-pound class. The winner of Lara-Hurd will join Hall of Famers Terry Norris, Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya and Winky Wright, as well as Canelo Alvarez, as the only fighters to unify 154-pound titles.
Also featured IBF Super Middleweight World Champion Caleb Truax and former champion James DeGale, who meet in an immediate rematch of what was the near-universal upset of the year in 2017. In the opening bout of the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, super welterweight contenders Julian Williams and Nathaniel Gallimore will face off in an IBF 154-pound world title eliminator.
