There might be a few losses plastered to his record but Caleb Plant is still one of the top dogs at 168 pounds. So, naturally, the former IBF champ needs a dance partner that operates near his level.

That shouldn’t be hard to find. The super middleweight division has a little bit of everything. From veteran fighters looking for another crack on the big stage like John Ryder to younger fighters such as Jaime Munguia and David Morrell - aiming to prove that they belong in the ring with the big boys.

During a recent sit down with Brian Custer, he gave Plant the opportunity to make his pick. Whether it was one of those aforementioned names or someone else, Plant was given the floor to be the boss of his career in a conjectural world and make his selection on who he would like to face next. But while he could have called out whomever he pleased, he decided to bring up a fighter who hasn’t fought at 168 pounds just yet.

“Right now, my main focus is Jermall Charlo,” Plant told Custer on The Final Stand. “That’s who I wanna fight.”

Punching Charlo in the face is number one on Plant’s agenda. Their arbitrary feud came out of nowhere when a video was released showing Plant slapping Charlo backstage. The details of what actually happened are still a bit hazy but Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) insists that it was Charlo’s pugnacious attitude that sparked everything.

Charlo, up until this point, has been out of sight and out of mind, at least in the ring. A nagging back injury and personal issues sidelined the 33-year-old for two and a half years.

In addition to having to play the waiting game, Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) has to make a decision. He proudly holds the WBC 160-pound title but has flirted with the idea of moving up in weight.

On November 25th, he’ll provide a bit more clarity as he’s set to take on Jose Benavidez Jr. at an unspecified weight. Plant, without question, will be watching. As long as Charlo picks up the win, Plant will be giving him a call soon after.

“He’s been talking about moving up to 68 for some time. I know he’s right on the verge of that. That’s a fight that needs to happen in boxing.”
