The day of this weigh-in went much smoother for Caleb Truax than the last time he was supposed to step on a California State Athletic Commission scale.

Truax met his contractual obligation without incident Friday for his 168-pound title fight Saturday night against IBF champ Caleb Plant. Truax officially weighed 167.8 pounds for their 12-round bout, slightly more than Plant, who came in at 167.6.

The 28-year-old Plant (20-0, 12 KOs), of Ashland City, Tennessee, is regularly listed as at least a 45-1 favorite to defeat Truax in the main event of a FOX tripleheader at Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles (see below).

The 37-year-old Truax (31-4-2, 19 KOs, 1 NC) is ranked third by the IBF, but he has been declared its mandatory challenger for Plant’s super middleweight title. The top two spots in the IBF’s 168-pound ratings are unoccupied.

Truax, of St. Michael, Minnesota, was supposed to face Alfredo Angulo in an IBF elimination match August 29 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The former IBF super middleweight champion withdrew the day of their weigh-in due to a brief illness that left Truax too weak to fight.

Mexico’s Angulo surprisingly lost a 10-round unanimous decision to Truax’s late replacement, Vladimir Hernandez. Denver’s Hernandez (12-4, 6 KOs) beat Angulo (26-8, 21 KOs) by the same margin on all three scorecards, 98-92.
