The "regular" featherweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Panamanian Celestino "Pelenchín" Caballero (36-4, 23KOs), has lashed out at his counterpart in the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mexico's Jhonny Gonzalez (52-7, 45KOs). Caballero claims Gonzalez promised to fight him, but then he ignored him. Gonzalez will defend his title on September 15th against Daniel Ponce De Leon.

"Jhonny Gonzalez is a coward. I have to say so, because he promised a Mexican journalist in my face that we were going to unify the titles immediately after he beat the Dominican Elio Rojas," Caballero said by telephone from Las Vegas. "Unfortunately, Gonzalez forgot this promise. Actually, I do not know what he's afraid of."

Caballero is going to push the WBA to order a unification with "super champion" Chris John (47-0-2, 22KOs).

"The regulations have to complied with. Chris John is obliged to face the regular champion of the same weight, which in this case is me. This is a mandatory fight that has to be met and I'm asking for it," Caballero said.
