Grozny, Russia - Lucas 'Big Daddy' Browne (24-0, 21KOs) was cut, on the floor and hurt several times - but he sucked it up to capture the WBA 'regular' heavyweight championship with a tenth round stoppage of Ruslan 'White Tyson' Chagaev (34-3-1, 21KOs)

Per the order of the WBA, Browne will now have to make a mandatory defense against Fres Oquendo.

After two close rounds to start things off, Chagaev let his hands go in the third and started landing on Browne. The fourth saw Browne come out more aggressive, trying to land something. Chagaev returned to form in the fifth to wobble Browne with a series of punches.

Chagaev opened up a cut above the left eye of Browne in the sixth. They were trading shots in that round, with Chagaev landing better and more accurate punches. In the final minute, a big right from Chagaev dropped Browne on his back. Browne made it up, but Chagaev then wobbled him again during the final minute with a drilling left and started working him over hard, with a few shots landed even after the belt to end the sixth.

Browne came out swinging for the fences in the seventh, looking to change everything with a big shot. A series of punches from Chagaev in the final minute once again hurt Browne. The next couple of rounds were slow paced with Chagaev looking to box his way to the finish line.

During the tenth round, a stunning turn of events as Browne dropped and badly hurt Chagaev. Chagaev got up, on very wobbly legs and Browne jumped right on him and battered him against the ropes until the referee jumped in to wave off the fight.

MORE DETAILS TO COME...................

Coming into the fight, Chagaev won his last seven outings. He captured the vacant WBA title in July of 2014 with a close twelve round decision over Fres Oquendo.

He returned last July, with new trainer Pedro Diaz of Cuba at his side, to make the first defense of his title with a first round destruction of Francesco Pianeta in the first round.

The only two fighters to more of less dominate Chagaev were former champions and Olympic gold medal winners Wladimir Klitschko (2009) and Alexander Povetin (2011).

Chagaev is a two-time champion and the first man to defeat the Russian giant Nikolai Valuev.

Browne, who is promoted by former world champion Ricky Hatton, has been pecking away for quite some time in the ranks. He has some decent wins on his record but very vulnerable to getting hit, cuts and being drawn into slugfests.
