Andy Townend will return to the ring later this month.

The English super-featherweight champion is on a two-fight winning streak since losing to Martin J Ward last September.

And now ‘The KO Kid’, 28, will get an opportunity to win another major title in his home county of Yorkshire.

Townend (18-4, 12 KOs) is set to fight for the vacant Commonwealth title, formerly held by future IBF world title challenger Liam Walsh, on May 27, exclusively live on Sky Sports.

The fight, against Jon Kays (22-5-1, 5 KOs), will take place on the undercard of Kell Brook’s IBF welterweight world title defence against Errol Spence Jr. at Bramall Lane in Sheffield.

Kays, 33, has been out of action since last May when he outpointed veteran journeyman Ibrar Riyaz over six rounds in Wigan, but the former English champion will be hoping to grab the rainbow belt against the man who now holds his old title.

Elsewhere on the card, George Groves faces Fedor Chudinov in a battle for the vacant WBA ‘Super' world title in the super-middleweight title, David Allen will fight Lenroy Thomas as the pair clash for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title and 2016 Rio Olympian Anthony Fowler, who also won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, is set to make his professional debut.

Further details will be revealed in due course.
